When it comes to early childhood education, it’s true that the moments when your children aren’t in school that are equally as important as those when they are. At First Class Child Development, we proudly serve families in Houston and the surrounding area. With preschool and kindergarten classes specifically designed to serve your children, there’s nothing we love more than getting parents involved in the process.
That’s why in today’s post we’d like to share a little bit about how you can keep your kids entertained over the holidays. This is something that’s always a challenge, and it’s often tempting to let them spend the entire time in front of the television or with a tablet. The truth is that with a little bit of creativity, you can ensure that your kids are learning even when they’re not in school. So what can you do to make this happen? Keep reading to get a few great ideas!
How to Entertain Your Kids Over Winter Break
Do Arts and Crafts
At First Class, we use positive guidance techniques in an age-appropriate setting to foster the social/emotional, language, cognitive, and physical development of young children. One of the best ways to get their creativity flowing and help to foster these skills is by finding the right arts and crafts. Whether that means painting a picture for a grandparent, working on a coloring book, or even assembling a set of Legos, it’s important to find an activity that keeps your child engaged throughout the process.
Make Time to Read
As you probably already know very well, there are a number of books that are appropriate to read to your kids during the holidays, and that number seems to grow exponentially every single year. Our advice is to carve out some time each day for storytime. Whether that means that you’re reading to the kids or you’re having the kids read to you is your decision, but the fact remains that setting aside some time to read is important.
Bake Together
The holidays are the perfect time of year to teach your kids about the joys of baking. With so many wonderful cookies, candies, and sweets to enjoy, there are plenty of opportunities to collaborate with your little ones. Perhaps that means having them read you the recipe. Maybe it means having them measure out the ingredients. Whatever the case may be, letting the kiddos be a part of the baking experience rather than being excluded from it is a positive thing. And who knows? It might just be the catalyst for their love of baking or cooking down the line!
