Microwave Puffy Paint
Supplies:
1 C flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Water
4 snack size bags
Food coloring
Instructions:
For this craft, you’ll want to mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then slowly add water until your concoction reaches a consistency similar to pancake batter. Divide the mixture into four cups and add food coloring. You can make as many different colors as you want, but we found that four works perfectly for us! Once your colors are mixed, put them into the plastic bags, put a rubber band on top, and trim the corner. (it will work like a piping bag)
You and your child are ready to paint your heart’s desire onto paper. When your painting is perfect, pop it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds and watch it puff up right before your eye. Remember to take caution as your painting may be hot.
Cupcake Liner Flowers
Supplies:
1 regular cupcake liner
1 small cupcake liner
1 green popsicle stick
1 yellow sticker (rhinestone stickers look the best)
Craft tape
Green construction paper
Scissors
Instructions:
Choose a regular cupcake liner and a small cupcake liner and flatten them out a bit. Fold the regular cupcake liner in half, four times, then use the scissors to cut a curve in the liner. This is going to make the petals. Repeat the same process with the small cupcake liner.
Unfold the cupcake liners and attach the small cupcake liner to the center of the regular cupcake liner, you’ll begin to be able to see a flower now. Add your yellow sticker to the center or your flower.
This part might be a little tricky and require help from the adult. You’ll cut two leaves out of the green construction paper. The easiest way to do this is by folding the paper in half and drawing the shape on the fold, the same way you would when you make construction paper hearts.
All that’s left now is to assemble your flower. Attach the flower to the top of the green popsicle stick (the stem). Then attach your leaves to the lower part of the popsicle stick. Now you have a perfectly pretty cupcake liner flower!
Toilet Paper Tube Rockets
Supplies:
Toilet paper tube
Glue
Construction paper
Paper straw
Paint or decorations (you can get creative here)
Instructions:
We’re going to start this craft with the fun part — decorate your toilet paper tube. You can cover it in construction paper or patterned scrapbooking paper. You can paint it, add sequins or buttons, or even use glitter glue.
Allow the tube to dry, and then begin making the rocket cap. You’ll cut a circle out of your construction paper about 5” wide. Cut a slit halfway through the circle and roll it into a cone shape. Attach the rocket cap to the top of your tube with glue. You can also get creative decorating your rocket cap.
Finally, attach the straw to the bottom of the rocket to create the “fuse.” Now you have yourself a rocket that will brighten up any celebration!
